Overview

Riffo is a desktop tool for Mac and Windows that uses AI to rename files and sort them into organized subfolders automatically. The premise is simple: managing files manually — especially screenshots, downloads, and project assets — wastes hours every month. Riffo fixes this by reading the content of each file and generating a meaningful, consistent name based on what is actually inside. The bulk rename feature processes hundreds of files at once. Drag and drop a folder, review the AI-suggested names in a preview panel, then apply in bulk. Every change includes an undo function, so you can revert before anything is committed. Auto Foldering is the second core feature. Drop a messy downloads folder or desktop dump and Riffo sorts files into logical categories — by type, project, date, or subject. Users report organizing 200 files in what previously took hours. The naming convention library gives users a reference for industry standards across research, corporate, legal, and agile team workflows. This makes Riffo practical not just for desktop cleanup but for implementing consistent file naming across entire projects.

Best For

Freelancers and remote workers with cluttered downloads folders and inconsistent file naming, Content creators managing large volumes of screenshots, project assets, and reference files, Researchers and students organizing academic papers, notes, and study materials, Professionals in legal, medical, or technical fields implementing strict naming conventions, Small teams standardizing file naming across shared drives or handoff workflows

How It Works

You open Riffo and drag a batch of files into the rename view or drop an entire folder into the Auto Foldering panel. For renaming, Riffo reads each file content — analyzing images, documents, screenshots, and more — then generates descriptive names based on what it finds. Review the suggestions in a preview panel, make edits if needed, and apply in bulk. The undo function rolls back any rename individually or all at once. For Auto Foldering, the AI analyzes the type and content of each file and creates logical subfolders, then moves files accordingly. Riffo shows the proposed folder structure before executing, so you always see what will change before it happens. Custom naming rules let you define your own templates — project name plus date plus document type, for instance — so Riffo applies your conventions consistently rather than making generic suggestions. All processing happens locally on your machine.
